Flying High with the West Coast Eagles

West Coast Eagles Round 14 Team

Once again time heals all football related wounds and I, like many of you, am anticipating the weekend with typical supporter’s blind optimism. (We rebounded from the Pies flogging ok, didn’t we?). Surely it can’t be any worse than last week, right?

In truth it’s another massive challenge this Friday night as we take on the Hawks at the MCG. And the big changes keep on coming, five again this week.

West Coast Eagles
B: Jaymie Graham, Darren Glass, Mark Nicoski
HB: Andrew Embley, Beau Wilkes, Adam Selwood
C: Brad Ebert, Daniel Kerr, Tim Houlihan
HF: Steven Armstrong, Ashley Hansen, Ben McKinley
F: Mark LeCras, Adam Hunter, Quinten Lynch
Foll: Dean Cox, Matt Priddis, Jamie McNamara
I/C: Ryan Davis, Will Schofield, Brent Staker, Tyson Stenglein
EMG: Michael Braun, Eric Mackenzie, James Thomson

In: Armstrong, Davis, Graham, McNamara, Staker
Out: David Wirrpanda (back), Sam Butler (groin), Brett Jones (knee), Michael Braun, Chad Fletcher

Dropped are Fletcher and Braun. They join Wirra, Butler and Brett Jones who are out with an assortment of injuries.

Wirra and Butler had down games on Saturday and looked injured, whilst Jones has been battling his injury for the last couple of weeks. It’s a pity for Jones as he has been one our best in 2008 and is on track IMO for a top 5 finish in the West Coast Eagles Club Champion awards.

I have not heard, but I am hoping that Butler’s groin is not Butler’s “GROIN” as in the one that kept his out of footy for 18 months.

In come some of the regular rotations in Staker, Graham and Armstrong, and two players I have been impressed with in Davis and McNamara. In fairness, Jaymie Graham has been in exceptional touch in the WAFl - both in key forward and key back as well as in the ruck. He could get some time in the ruck tomorrow night with TBU back as a key forward - I’ve said before - he plays the ‘G very well.

Interesting to see James Thomson and Eric McKenzie on the emergencies bench for this game. Surely both are not far away from getting a run in 2008.

  1. Once again a handful of changes, albeit most through injuries. Surely can’t be good for team balance. Unless Worsfold is just tying to give everyone a decent go with an eye to the future.

  2. I have a baaaad feeling about this one. What’s the AFL record for cumulative loss margin in consecutive matches? :(

  3. Personally I do not see why you would not just leave some of these guys in and just let them play. Players like Graham, McNamara and Davis. They have all shown something.

Also I would drop Ebert as he is looking way out of his depth at the moment, I would bring in Selwood again.

btw would Graham play ruck or would they play Lynch ruck? and what do we do with Seaby? Trade bait perhaps?
