Worsfold’s View on Season 2008

worsfold_m.jpgAFL.com.au has an article with Woosha’s views on the season ahead. As usual he is up beat and to the point.

Some of his quotes:

“The biggest change when pre-season started was obviously a new captain straight away, no Chris Judd around and obviously no Cuz (Cousins),” Worsfold said.

“So it does (feel different), and the new leadership group are determined to put their stamp on it straight away.

“It is hard to measure the impact of losing a Chris Judd because it can open up other opportunities for other players.

“It might mean that Daniel Kerr has a better year, or that Brent Staker gets a chance through the midfield - it is very hard to predict.

“It is not all negative, that is what I am saying.

“When a player leaves, or retires for whatever reason, players take their place in different ways.”

I’m feeling more positive about 2008 already. Interesting read.

Hmmm. Tried to comment on this earlier in the week but it looks like it disappeared - will try again.

Interesting last sentence from Worsfold: “… what I am saying is that ‘Kerry’ will win the Brownlow!” Kerr seems to perform well under pressure, and I guess that’s one way of putting some on him. :-)

It was also interesting to hear about the investigation into Paul Roos’ “go forward but kick a goal” comment. Arrant hypocrisy from the AFL, though at least they’re consistently hypocritical. For all that I don’t like Roos (instructs his players to bend rules to breaking point then uses the media to whine about free kick counts), his comment in this follow up made me laugh:

“I believe every time my team crossed the white line the players try 100 per cent; as did the Carlton team last year that went 0-11 and got Matthew Kreuzer and Chris Judd.”

By the way, it hasn’t come out too well but there are links under “investigation” and “follow up” in my last comment …

  3. Something weird going on with the spam filter I think…

Good quote by Roos. I like it!

I can’t work AFL head coaches out - they seem like a strange bunch if you ask me. Those coaches association get togethers must be really quirky affairs. I can see the evasive, cliche filled conversation. The strategy reshuffling of the room furniture. The clinical analysis and disection of the day’s agenda. The obtuse jokes spoken through unmoved faces. Barrel of laughs I reckon…
