Top Five - Essendon vs. West Coast Eagles - Round 11
Recap
If you must be reminded, we lost.
Top Five
I don’t really want to be negative, bitter, dummy-spitting, small-minded, spoilt fan. But on this occasion I am making an exception.
1. I hate losing to Essendon
2. I hate losing to Essendon, when we should’ve won
3. I hate losing by one point, especially to Essendon, and especially when we should’ve won
4. I hate not having away games shown live
5. I hate that I feel so strongly about a round 11 game
6. I hate we have to wait an extra week for a chance at getting back on the winners’ list.
Yes, I know that is six, not five, rather short and rather sour points to take from the game but really who cares that Priddis and Rosa continue to do well, who cares that we still can’t bury teams by kicking straight, and who cares that Judd played with an injury and we got smashed at our own game after half-time? Not us.

But you absolutely loved winning the grand final by one point didn’t you? So suck it up and take the good with the bad. You have no divine right to win every game in the season and your players aren’t Gods. Well maybe Judd.
Yes you should have won. A quality team shouldn’t let a 30 point win disappear. But that’s what they did.

Loved winning the Grand Final? Nah. Really? Hard to believe.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda, didn’t, Essendon still suck more than a Dyson. And a Dyson *never* loses suction.
Typical of those bastards - they’ve kicked about 50 goals 130 in the past month then choose the game against us to suddenly remember how to kick straight. Matthew “Duh” Lloyd did the same thing to us a while back too, had a bad case of the yips then decided to come out with 8.0 when playing us.

Correct Fordy - that was the Hird / Toyota game.
Tim - plenty of sucking it up here. Don’t flagellate yourself too much - we did lose the Granny the year before, you know.

I am a Swans supporter so yes I do remember the previous year’s grand final in which we won. It was a great day as yours was a year later. I agree that Essendon are overachieving at the moment. Interesting to see how far they can take it. One thing is for sure, the cream comes to the top when it matters.
Is 3 losses on the road a concern for you blokes?

I was there and believe me, you want to add to your list: I hate being in a stadium full of Essendon supporters when they win.
A couple of points:
1. We didn’t look like scoring a goal through any strategy after half-time other than bombing it high forward.
2. We have the Quinten Lynch of 2005, not 2006, playing at the moment.
3. Th defence held up well, though some Beau Waters biff was missed.
4. Danny Kerr may as well not have been on the ground.
5. The tag on Hird (Stenglein?) seemed non-existent. He’s not the quickest bloke on the ground but he got into space for them too easily too many times.

Gday Tim - visited your blog last night, it’s always good to get different perspectives. Three road losses in a row is always a bit of a concern, but for me it’s alleviated a bit by two things - (a) a lot of the “bad” periods for us have coincided with young blokes going missing (as they’re apt to do at some point in a game), often when Judd/Cox etc are rested, and (b) still only halfway through the season.
If we’re still suffering these road blues and inconsistency coming into finals, then it’s much much worse. Hopefully, though, we can regain some of the experience currently missing (and those players will gain their best form), or the young blokes will have improved their consistency and ability to stay “up” for a whole game by then.

You make apoint fordy, because their was a time last year when I thought the Eagles were going to crack. Around the time of that huge come from behind win against geelong at Skilled you were winning despite not playing well. I even wrote to Jim Main about it in the Inside Football magazine:

Lo and behold, I was very wrong

“5. I hate that I feel so strongly about a round 11 game” - same mate. How brilliant is Priddis though?! Every game, he never disappoints, with very high possessions. I reckon he’s going to be magnificent; he already is.
