Flying High with the West Coast Eagles

2006 Rookie Draft

The West Coast Eagles took 3 new and 3 existing players in the 2006 Rookie Draft to finalise the playing squad for 2007.

With pick 16 we took Jamie McNamara from East Fremantle, pick 31 we took former Brisbane Lion and current East Perth Ruck / Forward Llane Spaanderman, and pick 45 we took one time Kangaroo and brother of Brett, Chad Jones.

McNamara is a 2006 WA U/18 graduate who is a 183cm hard runner through the midfield. Spaanderman is a 199cm ruckman / forward who is still only 20yo, has terrific potential but there have been question marks over his character. Chad Jones is our third Jones and is a 22yo 196cm mobile key forward with great potential after a couple of years with the ‘Roos.

Rounding out our list were the selections of Ben Sharp, Ashley Thornton and Beau Wilkes for their final years eligibility as rookies.
