Midweek Shorts
- The AFL has changed the rules pertaining to the trade period, which now allows for draft picks to be exchanged between clubs. Previously picks could only be traded if a player was involved in the exchange. Could stoke some more interest during trade week.
- Top spot gets a 7 day break for the first week of the finals, according to the AFL. This will be tricky game for us following the poor showing against Freo, but will this be enough to play for? Finish second and you get the Friday night gig. How that works for the Sat / Sunday games going to 5-8 I have no idea…
- Dean Cox, and his hometown of Dampier, in profile. (Realfooty)
- Former Eagle Aaron Edwards has kicked 88 goals (9 last weekend) for Frankston in the VFL so far this season. Will be interesting to see if he nominates for the ‘06 draft.
- The most games Andrew Embley has ever played in a season is 20; in 2006.
- Former Eagles Chad Morrison (148 games 96-04) and Jarrad Schofield (63 games 93-98) have announced their retirements from AFL football at the end of 2006. All the best to Chad and Jarrad in the next phases of their lives.

Interesting move with the draft rules, I hadn’t realised that a player had to be directly involved in trading. It makes sense, so that a club who is only looking for one or two players can swap (say) two mid-range picks for a higher pick.
