Fox Footy gets canned
In news that upsets me more than I’d probably care to admit Foxtel have announced that Fox Footy will be no more beyond 2006. This absolutely bites big time.

Foxtel is still in the hunt for the pay TV rights for 2007 and beyond but it won’t be with the all AFL channel which will wind up at the end of the year.
I can’t see how this can possibly be a good thing for the league, let alone supporters.
Demetriou puts his usual spin on it saying the new agreement allows for all eight games per weekend to be shown on free to air. But we know that watching games at half past 1 am on free to air as opposed to live on Fox footy is really no comparison.
I’ve heard a whisper ESPN might be keen to jump in to the pay TV rights ring, and if the part-PBL owned Fox group is wanting to thumb their nose at the AFL then I’d welcome a new player. All in all I am sceptical of the potential outcomes of this arrangement on what I thinks are dark day for AFL fans around the country.
